Pensacola, Fla. (December 1, 2006) – The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team (2-3) was edged 74-71 by the University of West Florida (3-3) on Friday night at the Hatch Mott MacDonald Hoop Classic.
The Lions got 17-point performances from both Alleo Frazier (Gr., Tampa, Fla.) and Jordan Prais (Fr., Lakeland, Fla.), but were unable to overcome a game-high 27 points by West Florida guard Barry Durosier. Prais also grabbed a game-high tying eight rebounds in the contest.
West Florida led by as many as 10 points in the opening half before a 9-0 run brought the Lions to within one point at 26-15. The two teams eventually went into the half-time locker room tied at 36-36.
The Lions eventually pulled out to a six point lead late in the game, but the Argos scored 10 of the final 13 points to secure the win. SLU senior J.J. Turner (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) missed a pair of three-pointers at the very end in an attempt to send the game into overtime.
