Jacksonville, Fla. (November 14, 2006) – The Saint Leo men’s basketball team was edged 77-73 on Tuesday night in its exhibition season finale against Division I Jacksonville University (1-1).  The game was played at Veteran’s Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.

Saint Leo rallied in the second half to tie the score with 2:02 left in regulation, but a put back by Dolphins’ forward Marcus Allen and a pair of free throws by Jacksonville guard Jesse Kimbrough sealed the four-point win for the DI Dolphins.

The Lions had four players score in double figures, led by Richard Blue’s (Sr., Miami, Fla.) 19-point night.  Freshman Jordan Prais (Lakeland, Fla.) added 16 points, and guard Quentin Cullop (Winter Haven, Fla.) scored 14 points, including a 12-point second half.  Completing the quartet of double-digit scorers was senior George Eshesimua (Miami, Fla.) who netted 11 points.

JU led by nine at half-time and stretched its lead to a game-high 17 points with 14:55 left in the game.  However, the Lions began chipping away at the home team’s advantage and eventually tied the score on a three-pointer by Cullop with 2:02 left.

Allen then scored two of his game-high 20 points with the decisive put-pack, which was followed by Kimbrough’s pair of free throws.

Saint Leo will open its 2006-07 regular season this weekend in Denver, Colo.  The Lions will open the season against Colorado Christian University on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
