Orlando, Fla. (November 9, 2006) – The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team continued its exhibition schedule with a 102-54 loss to Division I University of Central Florida on Thursday night at UCF Arena.
George Eshesimua (Sr., Miami, Fla.) was the high scorer for the Lions, going 4-of-7 with two free throws and totaling 10 points.
UCF sophomore Jermaine Taylor was unstoppable during his 21 minutes on the floor. He made his first five shots, all threes, en route to a game-high 25 points. Junior Chip Cartwright led UCF from the charity stripe by converting all six attempts, as the Golden Knights went 19-of-23 (82.6 percent) at the line. Cartwright finished the evening with 11 points.
UCF was also red-hot from three-point land, as the Golden Knights went 11-of-22 (50.0%) from beyond the arc. Overall, the team shot 57.6 percent in the first half and 56.7 percent in the second half.
The Lions are now 0-2 in their three-game exhibition schedule against Division I opponents. They will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. on Tuesday, November 14 for the final game of the exhibition season against the Jacksonville University Dolphins. Opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
