MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Saint Leo University baseball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped tonight as Florida Tech rallied to an 8-4 win. The non-conference game was a matchup between the fifth ranked south region team, Florida Tech (12-3) and the sixth ranked south region team, Saint Leo (10-3).
Taed Moses and Dillon Vitale both notched three hits on the evening—with Moses adding a pair of RBI to go with his already successful night at the plate. Bobby Twitty added two hits and by doing so, extended his hit streak to nine games.
The Lions got off to the start they wanted—scoring a run in each of the first two innings to get a lead in the game. But after the first two innings the Lions' offense went silent and the Panthers' bats started getting going.
The Panthers rallied in the fifth and sixth innings for five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Saint Leo found a spark of offense in the top of the seventh to bring the game back within 5-3—but the Panthers countered with three more runs in the seventh to regain control of the game.
Having been off for the last eight days, Saint Leo decided to throw two of their weekend starters for two innings each tonight. Rick Teasley started the game and had no trouble working through the Florida Tech lineup. Five of the six outs that Teasley recorded were strikeouts, and the senior allowed just two hits and no walks.
Relieving Teasley in the third was Brent Krauss—who, like Teasley, had little trouble with the Florida Tech offense. Krauss struck out two over the course of his two innings while giving up three hits.
Dylan Reid (2-1) gets the win for Florida Tech and taking the loss for the Lions is senior RHP Matthew Hewitt.
