LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team scored seven runs before registering their first out as they defeated Warner University 10-3 in mid-week action at Royals Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Saint Leo (8-3) capitalized on two Royal fielding errors in the opening inning as the first seven Lions reached base; all eventually scoring. It was an inning where Saint Leo would bat through the lineup, with Ryan Brnovich coming to bat for the second time with just an out on the board.
Saint Leo would add two more runs in the next frame as they chased starting Warner (5-10) pitcher Jeff Jacobsen (0-1) after just an inning-plus of work.
Going six complete, starting pitcher Ryan Sadler (1-1) picked up his first win of the season as he surrendered just five hits and a single run. Rick Teasley and Matthew Hewitt teamed up for relief duties, only allowing two more runs to cross the plate.
The five-through-seven hitters in the Lions' lineup put up the biggest numbers as right fielder Dustin Brown, batting fifth, went 2-for-4 with two RBI; the no. 6 hitter Brendan Collins, also went 2-for-4 with four RBI; and designated hitter Michael Revell, seventh in the order, matched his teammates by going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Saint Leo will remain on the road as they next travel to Orlando to face Florida Christian College on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at historic Tinker Field.
