ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The reigning Sunshine State Conference's Pitcher of the Week proved his worth as Rick Teasley tossed a complete game as he led the Lions to a 6-1 non-conference win over Eckerd College on Tuesday evening.
Making tidy work of the Tritons (4-4) in a short two hours and 14 minutes, Teasley (2-0) only allowed a single run on six hits. Dropping his season's earned run average, the junior lefty struck out nine Eckerd hitters and did surrender a walk.
Saint Leo (5-3) hitters got the Lions going in the first inning as Ryan Brnovich opened the game with a double to left field. His hit would spark a three-run frame that saw Chris Newcomb and Zach Miller cross the plate.
The second inning featured a lone run for the Lions when a Joey Cuda fastball was deposited over the left-field wall by Michael Revell. The right fielder's shot was the last run the Lions would score until a two-spot in the final frame, but the damage was done.
Revell led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Left fielder Brendan Collins also went 2-for-4 with an RBI in helping the Lions earn their fifth with of 2012.
Cuda (2-1), the 2011 SSC Pitcher of the Year, would pick up his first loss of the new season as he surrendered four runs on seven hits in eight innings of work.
The Lions return home and host Florida Christian College on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Thomas B. Southard Stadium. For the latest news, information, and updates on Lions' Baseball, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
