SAINT LEO, Fla. – Making his first and only start of his senior season, Saint Leo baseball pitcher Jeff Bloomer put on a clinic en route to earning the Sunshine State Conference’s Pitcher of the Week honor for the period ending May 2.

After his 2010 season was cut short due to an arm injury, Bloomer spent most of 2011 rehabilitating, eventually earning the surprise start against Sunshine State Conference rival Eckerd College when the Lions’ planned game one starter fell ill.

The Land O’Lakes, Fla. native took to the hill and proceeded to toss a complete game, seven-hit shutout as he helped Saint Leo to the 4-0 game one win.  Using the momentum gathered from the win, the Lions routed the host Tritons in the final game of the series, picking up their first SSC-series win of the year.

In the complete nine inning performance, he surrendered seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

The award marks the first SSC baseball honor for the Lions in 2011 and the first for SLU Baseball since Marshall Stalvey’s award in March of 2010.
