Brown Goes Deep Twice As Lions Dump Tritons in Home Finale

Dustin Brown Goes 4-for-4 in Non-Conference Win

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Lions' junior right fielder Dustin Brown capped off the 2011 home season by blasting two home runs in route to a 4-for-4 performance as Saint Leo (17-29) downed the Eckerd College Tritons (17-29), 8-4, Tuesday evening in non-Sunshine State Conference action from Southard Stadium.

Belting two home runs and tallying six RBI, Brown delivered a three-run blast in the first as well as a solo shot in the third en route to the win.

The Lions pounded out 12 hits against four Tritons' pitchers, including Brown, Anthony Santa and Ryan Brnovich, each of whom collected multiple hits.

Saint Leo struck first as Brown touched up Eckerd started J.W. Kilpatrick for a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. After Chris Newcomb walked and Santa singled, Brown deposited a 1-2 pitch over the leftfield fence to give the Green & Gold the early advantage.

In the bottom of the third inning, Brown put the Tritons outfielders on their heels again as he launched a 2-1 fastball over the left centerfield fence to give SLU a 4-0 lead.

After cruising for the first three innings, Lions' hurler Shaun Gaugh ran into the his first mishap of the game as a two-run blast off the bat of Alex Del Monte cut the lead in half.

Still, the Lions remained composed and in the fifth inning, the Lions platted their fifth run as Newcomb's one out triple eventually came around to score on a Santa sacrifice fly.

Saint Leo's Gough only allowed one more run before exiting the game after six strong.

The Saint Leo offense continued to provide Lions' pitching support, however, as Brown added to the Lions' total in the seventh with a two-RBI single and Brnovich's RBI base knock in the eighth solidified the game for the home standing Lions.

Gogh collected the win for the Lions as he tossed six innings of four hit ball. Allowing only three earned runs, Gogh (3-8) struck out three batters. Adam Albers, Henry Johnson, and Austin Buck combined to toss three innings of relief in which they allowed only four hits and one run.

Meanwhile for the Tritons, Kilpatrick took the loss for the visitors as he fell to 0-2.

Saint Leo has won three of their last four games.

The Lions will close out the regular season with a trip to Winter Park, Fla. to take on the Rollins College Tars. The series is set to get underway on Friday, May 6 with a single game. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
