SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo sophomore
Ronald Cheserek took Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for the first time this season, when he received the accolade on Monday after his performance in the Embry-Riddle ASICS Classic.
Cheserek crossed the line in a time of 26:01.51 in the 8K race, recording his first individual meet title of the season. He finished 36.4 seconds of the nearest runner, posting a 5:14.2 mile pace.
With Cheserek leading the way, Saint Leo finished second among the Division II schools in the event with 39 points. Senior
Josh Sickinger also finished among the top 10, as did senior
Anthony Deleva who was running unattached.
The SSC Runner of the Week award is the fifth of Cheserek's career.
The Lions will travel to Gainesville, Fla., next Saturday to run in the University of Florida's Mountain Dew Invitational. The men's race starts at 7:30 a.m.
