Women's soccer picked fifth in SSC preseason poll

SSC Release

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 17 Saint Leo women's soccer team has been picked No. 5 in the 2017 Sunshine State Conference preseason poll, as voted on by league coaches, that was released by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions, who were named as the 17th ranked program in the United Soccer Coaches Division II preseason poll, will enter their first season under skipper Mario Rincon.

The Lions went 13-4-1 last season on their way to capturing both the SSC regular season and tournament titles before hosting the first and second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer South Regional at University Soccer Field. Saint Leo was joined by SSC foe Barry as the two lone conference schools ranked in the preseason as the Buccaneers came in at No. 16.

At home, Saint Leo held a 9-2-1 record with a 7-1-1 record in the SSC. The Lions will look to kick off their season with a road trip to Memphis, Tenn. to take on Christian Brothers on Sept. 1 and West Alabama on Sept. 3.

Saint Leo returns home on Sept. 16 to open their home portion and Sunshine State Conference play with Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m.
