SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo senior
Colett Rampf was named the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year on Wednesday, earning the award for an unprecedented fourth time in her illustrious career.
Rampf became the first SSC student-athlete to earn a Runner, Swimmer, or Player of the Year award four times. She won the individual crown at the 2017 SSC Championship with a time of 21:20.79, and her fastest 5K time this season was the 17:05 she clocked at the Queens University (N.C.) Royals Challenge.
"What can you say about Colett that hasn't already been said? She's one of the more impressive student-athletes to ever come through Saint Leo, and it's amazing that she's been able to dominate in our conference for all four years," said
Kent Reiber, Saint Leo's head cross country coach.
Rampf was one of four Saint Leo runners to earn All-SSC honors, including three First Team selections. Joining Rampf on the All-SSC First Team was juniors
Alyssa Bayliff and
Laura Tobin. Senior
Lauren Csubak was a Second Team All-SSC selection.
Bayliff, a three-time All-SSC honoree, finished third at the SSC meet with a time of 22:31.25. Her best 5K effort in 2017 was the 17:52 she posted at the Royals Challenge.
Tobin and Csubak are both All-SSC honorees for the second time in their respective careers. Tobin finished sixth at the SSC Championship with a time of 23:01.61, while Csubak was eighth after crossing the line in 23:24.84.
"Alyssa's been working so hard all season, and the way she raced at conference was so tactical and so smart. We're excited for the regional meet, as I think she can be a top five finisher," said Reiber. "Laura and Lauren have both worked incredibly hard this season, and it's nice to see their hard work and dedication recognized in this way. Both of them have the potential to be top 15 runners at the regional meet, and I hope to see them achieve that goal on Saturday."
The NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Fla. The women's 6K race will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men's 10K race at 9:45 a.m.
