SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo junior Alyssa Bayliff was named the Sunshine State Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Monday, following her third-place performance at Saturday's Disney Cross Country Classic 5K.
Bayliff crossed the line in 18:33.8, running a 5:58.1 mile pace, and turned in the top time among non-Division I runners in the event.
Her time was three seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher, Florida Tech's Lia Hanus, and five seconds off the pace set by second-place runner Michelle Klim from Youngstown State. Bayliff led Saint Leo to a third-place team finish in the non-Division I scoring for the Disney Classic.
The SSC weekly award is the first of Bayliff's career, and marks the fourth time this season a Saint Leo runner has won the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week accolade.
Saint Leo women's cross country will compete in the University of South Florida Invitational this Friday, Oct. 13, at The Claw golf course.
