SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo volleyball jumped one spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 Coaches' Poll to No. 19, to stay in the top 25 for the fifth straight week.
Saint Leo improved on its record after a 3-0 week behind three road Sunshine State Conference wins. The Lions, now sitting at 9-1, 4-1 SSC, swept Tampa on Sept. 26 in straight sets before taking down the Buccaneers 3-1 on Sept. 29. Saint Leo closed out its week with a 3-0 sweep of Nova Southeastern on Sept. 30.
The Lions moved up to No. 19 in the latest AVCA top 25 poll passing their season high of 20, which they achieved for the fourth week of the poll. This is the 21st time all-time the Green and Gold have been ranked in the weekly top 25 polls. Saint Leo was ranked for three weeks in 2008, nine weeks in 2009 and four weeks in 2010 while they add five in 2016 already.
In the AVCA poll, the Lions were joined by Palm Beach Atlantic (12-0) at no. 4. The Sailfish have held steady at no. 4 for five weeks in the poll [moved from sixth in preseason poll to fourth in week one].
The Lions travel to St. Petersburg to tango with the Tritons of Eckerd College Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. Saint Leo returns home on Oct. 6 to host Lynn for Alumni Night and Staff Appreciation Night where the alumni game and reception will be held on Oct. 7 inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
