SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo sophomore Ronald Cheserek received Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for the third time during the 2017 season, following his record-setting effort at the Queens University (N.C.) Royals XC Challenge over the weekend.

Cheserek posted a time of 23:48 in the 8K event at Charlotte's McAlpine Creek Park, eclipsing his own Saint Leo record, set at last season's Lehigh University Paul Short Run, by 35 seconds.

He finished in first place in the race, with a two-second margin over second-place finisher Christian Noble from Lee University (Tenn.).

Cheserek led Saint Leo men's cross country to a fourth-place team finish at the Royals XC Challenge with 117 points.

The SSC Runner of the Week award is the seventh of Cheserek's career.

The Lions will travel to Kissimmee, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 7, to compete in the Disney Classic. The men's race will take place at 7:40 a.m.
