|Title:||Director of Strength & Conditioning|
Hans Straub, a veteran athletic performance professional with experience in one of the nation’s toughest Division I conferences, is Saint Leo University’s new Director of Strength & Conditioning.
Straub served as the lead assistant sports performance coach for Stanford University football during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, working under the tutelage of renowned strength and conditioning coach Shannon Turley, the 2013 National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Strength & Conditioning Specialist of the Year. In addition to his work with Stanford football, primarily with tight ends, fullbacks, linebackers, and defensive ends, Straub developed a comprehensive sports performance program for wrestling and track & field.
Prior to his work at Stanford, Straub spent five years on the staff at Pac-12 rival University of Washington from August 2006 to March 2011, where he developed strength and conditioning programs for Husky football, baseball, softball, and volleyball. He oversaw the execution of the in-season performance program for quarterbacks, and implemented off-season speed and agility programs for the offensive line and linebackers.
Straub most recently served as the head strength and conditioning coach at South Florida, where he supervised a staff of four full-time staff members and three volunteers. He directed all aspects of the Bulls’ athletic performance program, including budget, training table menus, equipment, and continuing education. Under Straub’s guidance, there was a significant decrease in soft-tissue injuries for USF student-athletes in the weight room, and he worked directly with USF football to create a comprehensive performance enhancement program.
Straub’s career began at the University of San Diego from 2002 to 2006 as an assistant director of Athletic Performance. At USD, he developed sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for 10 Torero teams and assisted with those for four more, while supervising the daily operations of the faculty/staff fitness center located in the on-campus Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Straub is a 2002 graduate of Towson University with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, majoring in sports management. He is currently pursuing his master’s in kinesiology and physical education from the University of Texas at El Paso. Straub is a NSCA-certified strength and conditioning specialist, and holds Level One club coach certification from United States Weightlifting.
