GAME NOTES

  • Saint Leo will be sending three players from the women's team, and six from the men's team.
  • Kati Zaataini and Coralie Pesenti will both play in the Flight B bracket, while freshman Madeline Gauthier will make her first appearance as a Lion in the Fight C bracket. Gauthier and Pesenti will also team up to take part in the Flight B doubles bracket.
  • On the men's side, Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler will play in the Flight A bracket, while Fons Verberne and Egor Panyushkin will play in Flight B. In their first action of the fall, Oscar Nurmio and James Defusto will play in Flight C. Barroso-Campos and Theiler will team up in the Flight A doubles bracket, as will Panyushkin andd Verberne. Nurmio and Defusto will pair up for the first time this season in Flight B doubles.

  •  The Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete as split-squads this Friday at meets in Florida and Pennsylvania.
  • The top seven men’s and women’s runners will head to Bethlehem, Pa., to compete in the 42nd Annual Paul Short Run, held on the campus of Lehigh University. Competing for the Saint Leo men at the Paul Short Run are Carl Dunne, Niclas Bez, Valentin Lenz, Rafal Matuszczak, Anthony Deleva, Elijah Silas, and Stephen Brown. Representing the women’s team at the Paul Short Run will be Colett Rampf, Alyssa Bayliff, Laura Tobin, Natalie McCormick, Kylie Fagan, Haley Roussell, and Noemi Anaya. The rest of the Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to Tallahassee, Fla., for the Florida State University Invitational.
  • The Paul Short Run is one of the largest cross country meets in the nation, with athletes from over 220 colleges competing in six collegiate races and two open races during the day. Both the Saint Leo men’s and women’s squads in the Paul Short Run will be competing in the “Gold” races, which are reserved for the top Division I and all ranked Division II and III teams in the field.

  • The Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete as split-squads this Friday at meets in Florida and Pennsylvania.
  • The Florida State University Invitational, already one of the two premier cross country meets in the state of Florida, will have a packed field this season as it serves as the preview meet for the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships taking place on October 30.
  • Both the Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams are ranked second in the South Region according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II coaches’ poll.
  • Sophomore Colett Rampf, who sat out last Friday’s 5K race at the Florida Southern College Invitational, enters this week’s Paul Short Run with the ninth-best 5K time by a Florida collegiate runner this year, with the 17:52.54 she posted at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on September 19. All eight times faster than Colett’s were posted by Division I runners.

GAME NOTES

  •  The Saint Leo women's volleyball team returns to Marion Bowman Friday after a three-match road swing. The Lions are looking to reverse a two-match skid, and collect their first win at home. 
  • The Lions (6-5, 1-2 SSC) average 13.31 kills per set and a .222 attack percentage. Both rank third in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo also averages 12.38 assists per set which also ranks third. 
  • Outside hitter Hope Lemon leads the Lions with 3.10 kills per set, and 121 kills this season. Lemon has been held to single digit kills in four of her past five games. Lemon also leads the team with 17 aces this season, and has served at least two aces in the past four games, including a season high three aces against no.5 Tampa (9/15).
  • Britt Sederholm has settled into a stellar junior campaign, and has had three double-doubles this season, two in conference action. In her last outing, Sederholm turned in 11 kills and 11 digs, her fourth consecutive match with double-digit digs. Sederholm leads all outside attackers with a .209 attack percentage. 
  • Middle blocker Jillian Stolzenburg leads Lions hitters with a .276. The senior has collected 83 kills, and 20 blocks. Stolzenburg is one of two Lions to knock down 20+ blocks this season. Classmate Katie Adamson leads the Lions block with 24 blocks this season. Adamson also adds 1.50 kills per set. 
  • Through 10 matches, senior Kim Juriga leads the Panthers with 84 kills on 208 attempts while classmate Alea Hamm is not far behind, recording 82 successful attacks. Freshman Olivia Hersey is just behind the two seniors, notching 79 kills and is second on the team with a .303 hitting percentage. Juriga, Hamm and Hersey have also combined for 62 of the team’s 82 total blocks this season, with Hamm leading the SSC with 1.24 blocks per set.
  • In the middle, senior Ashtin Truesdale continues to jumpstart Panther runs as she has registered team-highs with 272 assists and 18 service aces to go along with 66 digs this season. Sophomore libero Becca Bower anchors the Panthers’ back line and leads the team with 154 digs.

GAME NOTES

  • Senior setter Ashlee Hodgskin leads the Sunshine State Conference with 11.13 assists per set, which ranks 16th in Division II. Hodgskin has collected nearly 500 assists in 11 matches, and has added 27 kills and nine blocks. The Orlando native has had five 40+ assist performances this season and turned in her second double-double of the year in the Lions last outing at Palm Beach Atlantic. 
  • Libero Jamee Townsend averages 4.90 digs per set, which ranks fourth in the SSC. Townsend turned in one of the best performances of the year at Palm Beach Atlantic, sprawling for 25 digs in three sets (8.33 digs per set). The junior has notched eight 15+ dig performances this year. 
  • The sixth-ranked Moccasins come into the weekend off to its best start in 25 years as they are sporting a 12-0 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the SSC after collecting two straight three set wins last weekend at home against Lynn and Nova Southeastern. The 12-0 start to the season is third in school history and first since the 1990 squad opened the season 32-0. 
  • FSC is one of the five remaining undefeated teams in Division II volleyball.
