  • Saint Leo men’s golf continues its Fall 2014 slate on Monday, Oct. 13, and Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Appalachian State Donald Ross Intercollegiate. The Lions are the only Division II team in a field otherwise completely made up of Division I schools.
  • Mimosa Hills Golf and Country will play host to this year’s Donald Ross Intercollegiate. The par 72, 6,540-yard course in Morganton, N.C., was designed by famed course designer Donald Ross in 1929. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.

  • After suffering their first loss of the season on Sunday evening to the Rollins College Tars, the third-ranked Saint Leo men’s soccer team looks to get back to its winning ways on Tuesday night against the Eckerd College Tritons. 
  • Last time to the two teams met on the pitch earlier this season, The Lions defeated the Tritons by a final score of 2-1 in regional play.  Melvin Agyei Boateng scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute off of an assist by Christian Valsquez to lift the Lions to victory on September 24.
  • Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel leads the team in scoring, topping the list in goals scored, assists tallied, and overall points.  Schulze-Geisthovel has totaled three goals, three assists, and nine points so far this year.  Melvin Agyei Boateng has tallied two goals and two assists for six points overall, and Brandon Rivera and Bafou Sanogo join Agyei Boateng with two goals apiece.  Sanogo has tacked on one assist so far to his total for five points.
  • Nick Jackson leads the way for the Tritons with six goals scored in nine games played, leading the team with 12 points.  Both Nick Murawski and Mitchell Metzger have scored two goals, while Richard Ainscough has tallied a goal and an assist for three points.
  • After Tuesday night’s SSC matchup, the Lions return to action on Saturday, October 18, when they host Barry University on their home pitch.  Game time against the Buccaneers is set for 7 p.m. at University Field.

  • The Lions ended this past week with a 2-2 split after dropping two Sunshine State Conference contests to Florida Southern and Rollins and then picking up a pair of wins against No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit and Cedarville.
  • Saint Leo picked up a 3-1 upset victory over No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit University, Saturday.  The offense was led by freshman Britt Sederholm as the outside hitter grounded 14 kills at a .400 attack percentage while also flashing some defense with five blocks and nine digs.
  • Libero Yaidimar Santiago continues to cover the floor, earning her second consecutive Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting 96 digs and averaging 5.33 digs per set across the four-contest week.  The senior leads the conference with 5.13 digs per set this season.
  • Senior Lauren Campbell reached four double-doubles on the week, contributing double-digit kills and digs in each match she played last week.  The outside hitter has eight double-double performances this season.
  • Webber International defeated Florida Tech by a 3-2 score, Saturday to pick up its ninth win of the season.  Outside hitter Breanna Bissel led the attack with 14 kills while Michelle Calderon totaled 21 digs on defense.
  • Saint Leo owns the all-time series record 24-2 against the Lady Warriors. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Lions dominated with a straight-set win in 2013.

  • No. 23-ranked Saint Leo women’s soccer plays its final two home regular season games of the 2014 season this week, starting with Wednesday’s SSC battle with Eckerd College. The Lions posted a 2-1 win over the Tritons earlier this season on September 24, with freshman Lindsay Perkins notching the game winner with 18 seconds remaining in regulation. Sophomore Saffron Jordan scored Saint Leo’s initial goal in the 31st minute and assisted on the game winner, on her way to earning SSC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Overall, Saint Leo has an 11-4-1 record all-time versus Eckerd.
  • Saint Leo is coming off a 4-1 loss on Saturday, Oct. 11, at No. 14 Rollins College – a defeat that snapped the Lions’ five-game winning streak. The five consecutive victories was the longest such stretch for Saint Leo women’s soccer since the 2011 season, when the Lions rattled off 10 straight wins to open the season.
  • Redshirt freshman Katie Waddell leads the Lions in goals scored with eight goals and three assists for 19 points; sophomore Arielle Kabangu also has 19 points this season on her seven goals and five assists. Sophomores Saffron Jordan and Genevieve Gignac each have three goals for the Lions this season, and two of Jordan’s goals have been overtime game winners. Waddell is currently 17th among NCAA Division II leaders in points per game (2.13/game). As a team, Saint Leo is 24th among all Division II programs in scoring offense (2.60 goals/game).
  • Junior keeper Laura Carstens got the start for the Lions against Rollins; she now has a 1.69 GAA and .756 save percentage over 587 minutes in six games played. For the season, she has recorded 34 saves against 11 goals allowed.
